Description: Sponsored by Friends of Music as part of Jefferson County's celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, this concert will feature Music of the Regiment performing a program called " Equal to Any Band in this Country." Combining world-class musicianship with historical scholarship, Music of the Regiment is an ensemble of musicians dedicated to the study and performance of martial music of the 18th and 19th centuries. They are period-instrument specialists who perform on instrument technologies of the past. With the story of the 2nd Virginia Regiment’s wind and string ensemble at its center, this historically immersive program combines dramatic readings of 18th-century sources with the marches, opera arrangements, and musical divertimenti that served as the soundtrack of the French, American, and British armies that converged at Yorktown in 1781. There will be two performances: one at 7:30 pm Saturday, April 18, at Shepherdstown's Trinity Episcopal Church, and another at 3 pm Sunday, April 19, at Happy Retreat in Charles Town. Admission to both concerts will be free for Friends of Music members. For the April 18 concert in Shepherdstown, the ticket price for nonmembers will be $35 per person. Elementary and high school students can attend for free. Tickets for college students are $5 each. The April 19 concert in Charles Town will be ticketed separately by Friends of Happy Retreat.
