Description: RAVEL: TWO ONE-ACT OPERAS - Monte Carlo Opera 2025 L’Heure espagnole & L’Enfant et les Sortilèges L'Heure espagnole (The Spanish Hour) by Maurice Ravel is a witty, one act comic opera about Concepción, a clockmaker's bored wife in 18th century Spain, who uses her husband Torquemada's absence to arrange secret liaisons, hiding her lovers (Gonzalveand Don Íñigo) inside his grandfather clocks, only to have them get stuck, leading to comedic chaos resolved by the strong, silent muleteer Ramiro, who proves more appealing than her sophisticated suitors. L'Enfant et les Sortilèges (The Child and the Spells) tells the story of a naughty young boy, confined to his room for refusing to do homework, who throws a destructive tantrum, causing household objects and pets to come alive and seek revenge, ultimately leading him to remorse and a newfound understanding of kindness as they collectively call for his mother, who appears at the end.
